About Me I have been backpacking on and off in the western US since college in the early 1970's. Summer 1970 a bunch of us spent a week in the Three Sisters Wilderness in Oregon barefoot with blankets, book bags, and no proper gear at all. Now I coordinate youth backpacking for our Camp Fire council, and enjoy taking the kids to the mountains. I hope to take up more long distance walking after retirement.

tarps in weather

JMT - Wonderland
Thanks for the feedback. In pictures I've seen the JMT does look a lot rockier than the WL was. Being from Texas, we are pretty used to rocky. I haven't carried sunglasses backpacking be...

Comparison JMT and Wonderland
In 2009 Robert and I hiked the 93-mile Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier. Our longest hike ever. We went into it with great trepidation, but actually it went just fine. The climbs were a lot o...

So, what's the matter with Nido? (Other than it not being organic and being a Nestle product. But your note suggests it is not healthful?)

Re: Memberships are commissioned IIRC
I work part time at an REI, and no, memberships are not commissioned. Employee evaluations (and store evaluations) include meeting membership targets, but this is not a commission. And there is a...
