My Locale Rocky Mountains
About Me My favorite location for backpacking is the Black Ridge Wilderness near Grand Junction - no trails, no people, lots of arches and alcoves. I enjoy hiking, canyoneering, snowshoeing, and rock climbing. I have a passion for natural arches, especially documenting significant ones on the Colorado Plateau. I go on short solo backpacking trips at least once a month.

Walmart and Powermax
Our local Walmart had all the Powermax cylinders on clearance last week. The guy in the department said that he understood it was being discontinued by Coleman. Craig Shelley

Camera
There are many posts discussing this topic. My recommendation is the Pentax Optio WPi. The i is the newer 6M pixel camera. It can be taken underwater (1 meter) so it works better in wet condit...

Big Agnes Clearview
I've had a Clearview Pad for a little while now. For the warmer conditions the pad is designed for, I think it is the best choice. It is very comfortable. It is very lightweight. Another big ad...

At this point, I've used the Ion for just two backpacking trips in the southern Utah desert. A friend of mine has also used it for the same two trips. We're both very pleased with the pack. ...

The Contrail is excellent. I used it again this last week in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Most of my backpacking is in areas that mosquitos, etc. are not common. So, I don't use the Contr...
