Re: Re: Down migraging through the open baffles
Yes, some of the baffles on the Ex Light Anorak are connected to each other. The jacket has sewn through construction, but not all baffles are sewn into a closed square. More like horizontal strips...

Post your favorite photos from 2014.
For me, 2014 was a year of many great trips. Unlike previous years, it was mostly an amalgam of shorter (3-4 day) trips instead of just a few longer epic trips. How many days did you get out th...

Down migraging through the open baffles
I've used my Ex Light Anorak something like 10-15 days now and so far, so good. It seems to be equivalent in warmth to my old UL Parka, at least as far as I can tell. My only complaint is that ...

Re: Downproofness of Montbell 7D fabric
I've had my Mirage for about a year and have had very little to zero down leakage through the 7d fabric. If anything, there's less leakage than there was from my UL Parka with 15d fabric.

Re: h2o fuel release
Rex, I think the best we could do would be quantify which fuel releases the least weight of H2O for a specific heat release (e.g. the amount of energy required to heat 500mL of water from 70F to 21...

Re: Why don't manfucaturers list the fill wieght of down jackets?
The same reason gear manufacturers obfuscate nearly all their performance specs: if you could directly compare between manufacturers, the one with the best specs would sell and every other manufact...

Re: h2o fuel release
The fuel with the highest C / H ratio will produce the least H2O... Methanol CH3OH, ratio of 1:4 Propane C3H8, ratio 3:8 Isobutane C4H10, ratio 2:5 Hexamine (Hexamethylenetetramine) (CH2)6N4,...

Re: Ideas
Can't say I've ever been in near-freezing temps and thought to myself, "The top part of my quilt sure seems useless right now."

Re: Shelter for JMT/Sierras
A Tarptent or tarp plus bivy would be perfect for the JMT. You'll want poles of some kind - often you can use trees but definitely not every night. Many manufacturers including Tarptent sell sh...

Re: Re: Re: Capilene
Anton, I wouldn't give up hope on synthetics just because of Capilene 2. I've also had to get rid of a Cap2 shirt because it smelled bad, but have had much better success with other fabrics...

zpacks Company
I had the same experience as everyone else here. Joe got me a customized piece of gear on time and was very responsive to my questions and requests. Can't do much better than that.

ULA Ohm
The Ohm is my go-to pack for trips that don't require a bear can. You can fit a Bearikade in it, but it's not very comfortable because it bulges into your back. I put a plastic frame sheet fro...
