My Locale The Netherlands
About Me Started hiking somewhere around Y2K, with a 50 pound pack, incl. food, water and fuel.
That dropped down to ~37 pounds incl. f, w & f, which wasn't that bad concidering traditional gear and food for ten days!
Than the UL bug bit me and my gear weight dropped and dropped to a baseweight of ~10 pounds for my Scotland-16-day-Solo.
Going solo for 3 days two nights max, baseweight is down to 4lbs2; Going solo for longer baseweight is down to 8lbs2.

Re: Zipping bags together
Firstly the zips need to be indentical and should fully part. A YKK 5 zip for instance wont fit a YKK 3 zip. Secondly you need one SB with a right zip and one with a left zip otherwise one person w...

Re: Re: Re: 4 grams?
They come in a small box of 20 tabs, they're not indifidually packed like in the US, which kinda sucks cause you shouldn't really touch Esbit with your hands. Eins

Re: 4 grams?
Nope. Esbit comes in different shapes and sizes. In the us apparently Esbit tabs weigh 14gram and the ones I can buy here in Holland weigh only 4 g. So in the beginning (after reading on BPL that o...

Re: Solid fuel users
I use Esbit. I take two or three tabs (@ 4 grams each) and boil about 3/4 to one pint. Eins

Re: Re: Off days & Thru's
Being religious or not, if you go hiking for five months on end I think it's good practice to take a resting day once a week. And I think your body would agree. But if the rest day will resu...

Re: Re: Re: Pullovers Vs. Full zip Jackets
Another benefit of jacket is that you can wear one backwards; you can don the jacket without having to stop and take off the pack. Eins

Re: Re: GPS no compass?
My point is that every item you carry that sees (virtualy) no use is subject to be left at home the next time I go hiking (except my emergency kit). So for the last three years or so I have almost ...
