About Me After lugging around 45lbs+ through a Nat'l Park or two, I decided UL was the way to go and haven't looked back. URL is to my Geargrams list for most of my 3-season trips. My other hobby is photography, if the destination is worth it, then add 1 to 7lbs to my base weight for camera gear. In case you were curious, my profile avatar image is Buck (aka 9 mile) Creek of the High Sierra Trail in Seki NP.

Re: Percentage off listed weight
I like to think of it from the other side of the table: If I was a manufacturer and knew that my product had sample variation (which is a reality of manufacturing), I'd spec weight at the 95% c...

Re: examples
Given that 30F is the lower limit of the comfort range in the bag you provided a link to, the true rating is probably closer to 40-45F. Most *cheap* synthetic bags rated to 30F weigh closer to 3 po...

Re: Canon S100 vs Panasonic GF3 [14mm f 2.5-22] Low Light Performance Comparison ??????
The GF3 has much better low light performance compared to the S100. For an image quality comparison, I suggest using dpreview.com's excellent comparison tool - you can select up to four came...

Re: Down Jacket Questions
The bitterroot is a well put together jacket with quality materials, but I can't really recommend it unequivocally due to a design flaw that was personally a dealbreaker. I ordered one during ...

Re: "Mistaken for Strangers"
Not sure how I missed this trip report until just now. Great work, and even better photography. A couple questions, if you don't mind: what lens did you use for your photos? As far as I ca...
