My Locale Extreme northern Sierra Nevada
About Me I'm 60, single male. I had been in Retail Management for over 30 years. I have mostly solo bped since the early mid '70's. I XC some, not afraid to go alone, I also solo winter camp, even out in sub-zero temps. A few years ago, I went on a backcountry bp to Alaska, where I flew in by bush plane with five others into Wrangell/St. Elias NP. Since early 2010, I have been collecting vintage/antique camping and bp stoves, having acquired over 90 now. I like many outdoor activities, from bping to dirtbike riding, gardening.

Brass vs Aluminum Threads on Upright Canister Stoves
How many people are out more than a week or a few times a year? Bpers are a small minority, then subtract how many actually get out a bunch every year. Gear is going to last a life time then. Duane

Simple canister stoves in borderline temps
I used my canister stove this winter in negative F temps, I had rigged up a windscreen before the trip, mostly to prevent heat loss from the stove to the pot. Worked very well, had the fuel warmed...

Western Mountaineering Antelope MF FS or FT
These are very warm and nice bags. I have a DL one, works very well into the negative F temps. Out of my WM bags, this is the most conservative rated I think. Duane

ZPacks Bivy
I have a quilt from both ZPacks and EE. I'd say then that the material in the bivy will not take much rain or duration at least, but then it is not advertised as such, just for use under a tar...

When your EE quilt is more waterproof than your bivy
I was off on a motorcycle trip with a friend last weekend, headed down out of the mountains for some flat land. Camped above Stonyford, CA in a OHV CG Friday night, then at a State Park by Manches...

Read restrictions posted at the TH
My comment above was mostly from an encounter in the Caribou Wilderness, which is east of Lassen Volcanic NP here in N Kalifornia. Clearly posted at the TH, that campfires were only allowed in imp...

Get some older stoves?
I have a few old stoves from the '20's and '30's forward, seem to be ok. Of course, before isobutane was developed, maybe the gas or kerosene helped. Duane

Re: Fire Bans
Dustin, +1 I live in the mountains, stay home if you wanna bring your city attitude and ignorance to my backyard. If you don't live here, you are unaware of conditions. Duane
