My Locale Western Washington
About Me I started backpacking again in 2008, after a long hiatus---I haven't been since I was a kid. Loving learning about a different way to hike---backpacking was no fun when I was a teen-ager, stuff was too heavy! Completed my dream of hiking the Wonderland Trail in 2010, now onto more hikes in the Cascades and Olympics.

Try Oxi-Clean
On Fresh Aire on NPR last week or two, Terri Gross interviewed a lady who writes a cleaning column on-line, and who wrote a book entitled, "My Boyfriend Barfed In My Handbag, and Other Things ...

table would be good
I second the request for a table, including square footage for comparison. A good start by a new author, just needs some tweaks. Editorial support should have helped him write to the standards o...

no to piezo
I was pretty sure I'd seen in other threads that piezo ignition was pretty worthless. Getting a slightly heavier stove just to have the 4 pot supports was already bothering me, so I'm happ...

piezo yes or no?
How reliable is the piezo starter? Or should one just forget it and go manual?

Thanks!
Cool photos and videos. Looks like I should try to make a trip up there this summer to see it again before the chalet goes. What does this mean for camping spots up there? I've never actually...

Hey, Critter, my boyfriend had heard that the river in Enchanted Valley had really changed its course this winter, and that it was threatening the Chalet. He was really bummed to hear that, he'...

What about in the rain?
I'd be curious to know how this tent holds up in conditions like the Olympics or other wet climates. I'm thinking that the condensation might be worse, and the vestibules are not going to k...

cream of tartar, eh?
So, I could use a little of each, baking powder, baking soda, and cream of tartar? I know I have some around here, somewhere, I used to use it for my yarn dyeing projects. Adding a little so...

gums not present
Well, now that you mention it, Sarah, the King Arthur flour mix doesn't have gums in it, it cites a blend of rice flour, tapioca starch, potato starch, and brown rice flour. I wouldn't thi...

1st attempt at making biscuits for the trail
Eating gluten free has put a crimp in my trail lunches. None of the gluten free tortillas stands up to being wrapped around PBJ or anything else; they all rip, leaving me with stuff all over my han...

Montbell Outpace Parka
The Outpace Parka is a decent jacket, but it has some design details that could be better. It sheds rain really well. It is pretty light and packable. Its breathability seems to be fairly good, alth...
