My Locale Western Washington
About Me I started backpacking again in 2008, after a long hiatus---I haven't been since I was a kid. Loving learning about a different way to hike---backpacking was no fun when I was a teen-ager, stuff was too heavy! Completed my dream of hiking the Wonderland Trail in 2010, now onto more hikes in the Cascades and Olympics.

Forgot to mention that if you like Ex Officio briefs, Duluth Trading has underwear of the same material, but slightly more generous cut-less crack ride up.

Any further thoughts on whether Saturday dinner will be a potluck, or is everyone doing their own thing? I need to wedge preparation in amongst my work schedule if I'm bringing for the group.

backpacking Oregon
Last year my boyfriend and I hiked a 50 mile loop around the Sisters, and loved it. I've been wanting to do the Timberline Trail around Mt. Hood, but it is a little short for my vacation at onl...

I have started wearing the Purple Rain Hiking skirt, made by a thru-hiker specifically for female hikers, available on Etsy. Under it I wear spandex running shorts, usually commando. The pockets ...

If you don't want to sew
Then check out the Purple Rain skirt on Etsy. Made by a through hiker, comfortable waistband and BIG pockets. In the summer, I wear the skirt, with leopard running shorts for chafe protection. A...

Re: Leopard print tights solution
Well, I wouldn't say that, Jeff. I hike in the PNW and don't have to worry about things thorny and pokey. I'm not sure how well they would hold up in Piper's situation, at least wi...

Leopard print tights
That's right, Doug, leopard print running tights. I ditched the zip-off pants after a misty backpack trip in Mt. Rainier park left me damp for days. I find the tights breathe better. Leopard be...

zpacks gaiters
On my size 10.5 Altra Lone Peaks, the Zpacks gaiters are long enough in the toe that I had to sew a toe loop on my shoes. Totally covers the laces, though.

I'm pretty sure that Will Rietveld had an article several years ago on modifying the white onesie to make rain gear.

Montbell Outpace Parka
The Outpace Parka is a decent jacket, but it has some design details that could be better. It sheds rain really well. It is pretty light and packable. Its breathability seems to be fairly good, alth...
