About Me I love the wilderness and UL gear.
I went on my first backpacking trip in Oregon when I was 6 weeks old (AUG72). It snowed all night long. When day light came I was the only thing left dry. Just wish I could remember it!

In 2000 my first UL trip resulted in a night hike to stay warm. Wrong gear.

Finished the BPL Scouting course (May 2010). Very cool. It was like closing a door. I feel like I can teach the principals now.

RE: "New Scout Buyer's Guide"
The watch thing has to do with having the patrols be more 'aware' of their surroundings and the time of day. It also keeps them away from altimeter and compass watches. Keeping their map ...

1. Raingear. I suggest two things to complete a good kit that will handle weather, wind and rain. The Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket will work pretty good as a rain jacket and really well as a...

Ryan's troop 676 on backpackinglight.com's web site has a checklist with recommended weights. You could use that as a guide and then build a best gear list. I like how his list gives maxi...

Wenzel is an entry level brand. Not great but works well in good weather. That is a pretty heavy tent by UL standards, but a great price. Did you try checking with Boy Scout Troops in your...
