I really like poncho/tarps, both the feel of sleeping under a small tarp and the dual use as rain gear and pack cover, but with any small tarp a bivy is usually needed for a little extra protection...

I guess I give off a lot of moisture because even "breathable" rain gear acts as a VBL for me, soaking any layers underneath. So the moral is, experiment close to home! -David
