My Locale So-Cal
About Me 46 years old. Married with two kids- Daughter born in 2000, son born in 2003. Loved camping as a little kid. Then we moved to the foot of Mt. Whitney when I was 13. I spent my teenage years backpacking, hiking, snowshoeing, xc & downhill skiing. A lot less since then (living in LA).

Mark, I'm heading to Yosemite Saturday to hike the JMT. My sleeping bag is a 52 ounce North Face mummy. I would love to drop 30 ounces if you think the quilt is good down to about freezing...

Proposal for stove tests: Use 32F or 0 c water
I'd like to propose that bench tests for stove efficiency and boil time use water starting just above freezing. I believe this will produce more repeatable results. It also provides a better ...

Buy a souvenier T-shirt
This may give an idea of the non-lightweight world I've experienced: My wife typically brings an entire clean outfit to put on at the trailhead. I suggest buying a souvenier T-shirt at the c...

How hot can the rubber bits get?
Some heat getting back to the canister seems a good thing for cool temperatures. I read Roger's pages on canister stoves with great interest. My first concern would be the temperature ratin...
