About Me Backpacking since winter camping meant an Army surplus poncho over a couple of feet of boughs (OK back then). Eastern winter mountaineering (lowest temp -40F). Traditional style Canadian canoe trips (tump lines, wanigan boxes, canvas/wood canoes). Now UL in the West.

Seems to me it somewhat depends on the scenario. For a solo backpacker in moderate weather I completely agree with you. For a group of four, out at -20, starting from melting snow .... --MV
