My Locale Auckland NZ
About Me I have been tramping (Americans say hiking) since I was a kid in the Boy Scouts. I have mostly tramped the South Island of NZ. Due to business commitments these days I usually squeeze in about 5 trips a year - mainly 3 to 5 days with always a big Christmas trip (our summer) of 14 plus days.
I belong to the Auckland Tramping club - a very active organisation - Google it.
I started Lightweight Tramping about 8 years ago - rather fanatical about it now!

I agee with Stephen - the sole structure makes it hard to use a gaiter with under strap, there is no arch to protect wear. I've been a "boot man" for 30 years. Changing my footwear was the hardest d...

Marmot Precip Jacket Mens
I use to swear by my MacPac but when I started going light a couple of years ago, 750grams of jacket became a "must ditch" item. Enter Marmot Precip. Now after two season and a work out on NZ's Stewar...

Bozeman Mountain Works Cocoon Pullover
This jacket is the "bees knees". So light, so warm. One off my best buys. Here in NZ we can only get the traditional down jackets. Whilst well made and very warm for our conditions, they are almost do...

I live and tramp in NZ (Americans call it hiking) I feel tramping is between hiking and mountaineering. I've been tramping for 40 years and always been loyal to our traditional "bullet proof" gear. Th...
