My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Re: One more on regulation
A regulation I don't like is charging a 5 cent deposit per can. It seems inefficient for me to take a bag of cans and feed them into this machine one at a time, take slip of paper to cashier...

Re: Re: Re: Wrong fin design
What I like best about BPL, is when David says he's done with fins, but people keep giving suggestions : ) This being backpacking light, you can't afford to have two layers of metal, it&...

Re: Re: Wrong fin design
Not enough cross sectional area for exhaust gases to flow through? So they just flow outside the fins? What is the distance between folds on the fins? Maybe 1/2 inch would be good. Maybe more...

Re: Wrong fin design
Exactly - cut off half of your fins, pull the remainder apart so the air gap is bigger. Even though the fins are springy and are touching the pot, if you put more pressure, there would be better...

Re: Heavily regulated
I don't mean to offend you or anyone. Your opinions are as valid as anyone elses. Actually, maybe the success of the U.S. is the diversity of people. For example, since some people have live...

Re: ponzi
Social Security is sort of like a Ponzi Scheme in that new investors pay off old investors, but with minor fixes it could be long term sustainable and there's no Ponzi skimming off large amount...

Re: Re: Re: re
I was thinking more about us controlling our population since we consume more than our fair share. But if we can help educate women globally, that's a good idea. Maybe some good can come ou...

Re: Line Testing
Nice test setup. Relatively inexpensive parts. Looks like it would give fairly accurate results.
