My Locale Western Washington
About Me I started backpacking again in 2008, after a long hiatus---I haven't been since I was a kid. Loving learning about a different way to hike---backpacking was no fun when I was a teen-ager, stuff was too heavy! Completed my dream of hiking the Wonderland Trail in 2010, now onto more hikes in the Cascades and Olympics.

I'm fairly fed up with trying to maintain the waterproofing on my WPB coats. I have been using Nikwax Tech Wash, not detergent, to wash the items, then the spray on waterproofing. Despite my ...

palm reinforcement
If you were making fleece gloves, and you wanted to put a patch on the palm to reinforce against abrasion, what fabric would you use? The pattern I'm using suggests cordura, but that seems awf...

Old style wide mouth Nalgene needed, quick!
If anyone has one of the old, old wide-mouth Nalgene bottles, pre-BPA free, that they can give up, I am in desperate need. We have a machine at work that uses one of the old bottles, and it has de...

Montbell Outpace Parka
The Outpace Parka is a decent jacket, but it has some design details that could be better. It sheds rain really well. It is pretty light and packable. Its breathability seems to be fairly good, alth...
