My Locale Western Washington
About Me I started backpacking again in 2008, after a long hiatus---I haven't been since I was a kid. Loving learning about a different way to hike---backpacking was no fun when I was a teen-ager, stuff was too heavy! Completed my dream of hiking the Wonderland Trail in 2010, now onto more hikes in the Cascades and Olympics.

Callback: Kupilka
A few years back, there was quite the buzz for Kupilka's in the ultralight community. 5 years later, is anyone still carrying theirs on a regular basis, or was it all just a fad?

sansa vs iPod
I have only used an iPod, but I like the fact that the Sansa has an expandable memory. I'm nearly maxed out on my iPod for capacity, and don't want to limit my music library or podcast list...

made by a thru hiker
Joe Valesko is a thru hiker with lots of miles under his belt. All of his stuff is made for the trail, but you can't thrash it-like any ultralight equipment. If you want a review by a thru...

That's weird, Greg, considering that Evernew is from Japan. Do China and Japan not tall to each other?

I have been happy with the Evernew system. The bite valve is a little harder to suck off of, but I have gotten used to it. It functions only upright, and does not hang in a bag, i carry mine in a ...

In working on running technique so I don't injure myself, I've recently learned that a recommended running cadence is about 180 steps per minute. Also, I recently re-read Dirtmonger's ...

Montbell Outpace Parka
The Outpace Parka is a decent jacket, but it has some design details that could be better. It sheds rain really well. It is pretty light and packable. Its breathability seems to be fairly good, alth...
