About Me In 1984 (and financially challenged), I acquired a Fischer mountain bike, panniers, Whisperlite & other gear, sewed a bike travel bag & stuff sacks, dehydrated food myself & headed for 2 weeks into the remote mountains of Western Mexico. Traveling light (for the time), with no Spanish skills, I ended up in a tiny Huichole Indian village with no electricity, toilets, or roads in the tops of the mountains. Fast forward—more recently, backpacked on Isle Royale. Canoed 150 miles on the Missouri River along the Lewis & Clark trail in Montana.
