Guadalupe Mountains NP - November
Can't believe I just saw this. Too bad we're supposed to take out scouts on a McKittrick Canyon-Ridge-Dog Canyon overnight this weekend. Doubt if I could do the 15-20 miles a day either. Pr...

Any guess as to where we'll wind up?
I see a lot of them on Whiteblaze and the Backpacker mag forum, but neither of those forums is as..............personable (for lack of a better word) or informative as BPL. As a general rule, peopl...

enLIGHTened equipment quilts in stock and ready to go
Makes me tempted to sell my Golite Ultra 20. But that seems kind of wasteful.

Surrounded by coyotes need help
I'd be more afraid of northeastern coyotes. Apparently genetic testing shows they're starting to have a pretty good percentage of wolf DNA, which some scientists think accounts for their in...

Where to fly for a week in mid October?
Santa Fe/Albuquerque. Catch the balloon festival, and hike part of the Grand Enchantment Trail. Although I sure like the Moab area.

Lightweight shelters with floors
I'm pretty sure that Tarptent doesn't make any tents now that don't have floors sewed in them. Unless it's a tent with a separate inner.

Pack Suggestions
I kind of alternate between a ULA Circuit, and a Gossamer Gear Mariposa/Gorilla, depending on load and terrain. ULA carries better when overloaded, IMO. Both made in the USA, what more could you...

backpacking food
I think the statement was "a well-sealed bottle had a hard time handling pressure differentials associated with 4000 ft altitude changes and 80 degree temp changes."

Marmot Atom Mens Regular 40 Degree
Nice bag. 1/2 zipper is kind of a pain, and makes it hard to use as a quilt. Seems true to rating.

ULA Catalyst
Replaced my Exos 58 with this, much more comfortable, with more weight. Got a deal on a 2008 model, and added the dual stays. A lot bigger pack than I'll use most of the time. Gained some weight o...

ULA Circuit
Switched to this for more durability, and the ability to carry more water in the desert. Works like a champ, and you couldn't ask for better customer service.

Osprey Exos 58
I have to ding it a little for the hip belt. I think the hip belts on the large runs small, because it didn't wrap around me enough to be effective. And that may not be fair to ding it, because al...

Golite Ultra 20
Mine kept me warm in the upper 20s, so I'm happy. I'm not completely sure it would reach 20, and keep you warm for 8 hours. But it's a great product for a great price.
