My Locale Southern California
About Me I live in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. I can get to a lot of nice hiking areas right from my street or travel for 15 minutes to higher elevations in the Angeles National Forrest. I started packing again with my sons in their Boy Scout troop. I was definitely not light that first trip 6 years ago and have been reducing my pack weight ever since. I mainly pack a few times a year in the Eastern and Western Sierras.

With your plan you will be doing about 17-19 miles a day for 12-14 days. I could not get along with 16 oz. of food unless it was really, really, really, calorie dense (like the canister full of pea...

JMT List
It's a nice list. I understand your concern with volume. I used a GG Mariposa Plus when I hike the JMT but now use a Gorilla when I can (unless someone else in the family needs it). I find in o...

Polycro as pack liner
I don't like the idea because your polycro will be on the ground where it can get wet from rain or just condensation. So, if you have to pack it wet then you would not have any type of liner to...

We used a MSR Miox on a trip with 9 people (Scouts). We got very spotty results and ended up playing with the unit more than we wanted. It seemed like the perfect solution but was not worth the wait. ...
