My Locale John S. hasn't told us about their geographical region yet.
About Me Originally from Louisiana, I enjoyed camping in my Boy Scouting days and eventually became an Eagle Scout. Many years later (2002), I discovered backpacking after going on an REI multisport trip to Alaska. My first backpack was to Grand Canyon, and I was hooked!

Re: Costco microfiber no good
I'm headed for Nepal soon (dayhiking) and will try Ben's cotton hand towel, measuring about 15" x 26", 3.5 oz. May bring my backup Walmart towel too.

"The fine Qiviut fiber has good tensile strength, but does not hold up well under friction. This is why the Co-Op does not make socks, gloves or mittens."

Re: EDC camera
According to my snooping around, you won't beat the deal on the Canon Powershot S110. Others might be Nikon Coolpix P340 Leica C Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1

Re: Spork vs spoon
I only use a spoon and it should work for those foods. Break the ramen up before cooking so it does not have long noodles. There are probably other threads on the subject.
