The Patagonia's seem not to have the pair of cargo pockets that bulge out, only a recessed one that lies flat. (Looking at the current GI iii but similar on my old Rock Guides, GI ii's, etc..)

External Frame Packs
Obviously they are best for flatlands, especially if a lot of water needs to be carried (flat deserts surrounding Big Bend N.P Chisos Mtns or other western desert flatlands .... or other flat place...
