My Locale Western Washington
About Me I started backpacking again in 2008, after a long hiatus---I haven't been since I was a kid. Loving learning about a different way to hike---backpacking was no fun when I was a teen-ager, stuff was too heavy! Completed my dream of hiking the Wonderland Trail in 2010, now onto more hikes in the Cascades and Olympics.

How many of you WASH YOUR HANDS? With SOAP? Particularly before eating? Hand sanitizer may not be effective enough. Unless you are practicing proper back country hygiene every time, all the time, y...

If no one else has responded, my boyfriend Bill and I could check it out Friday May 15th. We frequently go hiking near there.

dog bowl
I found disposable folding dog bowls that make a great basin for sponge baths. Weighs only a few grams, and cheaper than Doug's cuben dog food bowl. May lack the same panache, though.

When do we start?
I can't remember if the whole shebang starts off Friday night, or if everyone will arrive Saturday. I have a conflict for Friday night that I'm not sure I can weasel out of, so I was hopin...

toe loops on Lone Peaks
I have stitched some 2 mm loops onto the toes of my Lone Peaks. I did think about making wider loops, but decided that being able to just stitch in one spot was easier, and I didn't care about ...

t2 plus: ruined?
My boyfriend and I have used a T2 Plus for years. It was not much wider than the T2, certainly not big enough for 3 people, but it was longer, which allowed us to put our packs at the end of our pa...

Thanks, Greg. I am contemplating hand sewing loops of 2 mm line to the toe guard. Either using poly thread and a curved upholstery needle, or I may swipe outdated suture from the office--it has a ...

just wondered
There was such buzz about 4 years ago, it seemed like all the cool kids were doing it. Is it really a useful piece of kit, or is it just a nostalgia thing?

Montbell Outpace Parka
The Outpace Parka is a decent jacket, but it has some design details that could be better. It sheds rain really well. It is pretty light and packable. Its breathability seems to be fairly good, alth...
