Re: Re: New Product: Vectrawire Cord-Introductory Sale
Vectran is some mean stuff, but I didn't know it stacked up so well against dyneema.. That's impressive. If it's easier to tie knots with Vectran that is certainly a plus over dyneema f...

Re: Re: New Member a bit confused about the vast variety of fabrics used in tent/tarp construction.
Justin - .74 cuben has the same Mylar layer as .51. Think it's .08, while 1.0 cuben uses a .18 Mylar film. If memory serves, the 1.0 has the same spectra content as .74 only the film is differ...

Re: Affordable Windshirt?
I had a Brooks LSD wind shirt for a while and it was great for the money. You can usually get them for $40-$50 all day long. I think it was less than 6oz in an XL. It's polyester so not quite a...

Re: 10 Days on the AT between Hot Springs and NOC
Matt- You should be fine with the Wide version. The XW is actually much more room than I need, but it's so very nice to have. My previous bag was a WM Ultralite with 59" girth which I d...

Re: 10 Days on the AT between Hot Springs and NOC
Agree with Ben. A Dri-Ducks jacket is fine. Zpacks sleeping bags - I have a 20 deg XXL/XW version with a draft collar in all black Pertex. It looks like something Darth Vader would use on the De...

Re: MYOG karo-baffle quilt with extra interior baffles
Beautiful quilt David! I admire your patience with adding the interior baffles. Just a normal KARO quilt is tons of sewing, but you should have much less down shifting. Ryan

Re: Smoky Mountain Thru Hike
As already mentioned, a ride to Gatlinburg or Cherokee is your only resupply option. No food at Clingman's and no potable water at the Newfound Gap bathrooms. Ryan

Re: 10 Days on the AT between Hot Springs and NOC
In some years you will have some snow by then, with there being a very good chance in the Smokies. Watch the weather forecast as you get closer and check the Mt Leconte blog too. They give daily up...

Re: Line and Knot Load Testing
Nice. Used to use the Palomar knot back in my bass fishing days. It was the strongest knot we could find at the time. Ryan

Re: what is the go to thermal leggings of choice?
I use Terramar silk long johns which are probably the lightest option out there at 2-3oz. Obviously they won't be as warm as merino wool, but they're great for sleeping and doing some light...

I've had an Ohm for about a year now and have taken it on a few trips. It's very comfortable provided that you keep it in the weight range it's designed for. When carrying 20-25 lbs it car...
