My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Re: Yet another tarp
Looks good! Did you glue the reinforcing pieces? Is the 10 feet from peak to peak? There must be a seam between two pieces of fabric that goes crossways rather than from peak to peak?

Sawyer Squeeze freezing
Okay, I got my Sawyer Squeeze. Unfortunately, it says if it freezes you have to discard it. If I have to keep it from freezing, it is quite limiting because maybe 1/4 my trips go below freezing...

Re: I returned my Steripen
I think older units had problems with leakage - you have to flip one of the batteries to prevent. Newer Steripens are supposed to be better. Of my 6 batteries: The first 2 I left in the Ster...

Uplift is a fraction of an inch a year If it was 1 inch, in 100 years it would rise 8 feet - in our lifetimes this is not significant
