My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Re: Have any of you ditched trekking poles as you've lightened your weight?
I've tried 2 poles and I didn't like them - they occupy your hands so you can't take a picture or grab hold of a rock or tree. The 2 poles sometimes get tangled up with each other and ...

Fred "Redistribution" is the focus group tested word that you guys use for "taxes" I get it. You're using Phsycology/Propoganda/Orwellian techniques to get people to ...

Fred Take the period after WWII - cooperation between government and private - amazing results And people patriotically paid their taxes, maybe with a little grumbling. The wealthy paid a bi...

Re: Trailstar and the Zpoles conundrum (or want the LW poles but need adjustability
Use Easton Aluminum poles? Several sections that pull apart to pack - either 18" or 26"? 0.49" diameter would be marginally strong enough. I have one that's 1.5 ounce for ...

Re: Re: Mountain Laurel Designs TrailStar Shelter Review
