My Locale Southeast
About Me I live in Raleigh, NC and do most of my backpacking in the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC and Virginia. I started backpacking in my mid-20s and I've been doing it off and on for the past 15 years since. Nowadays I typically do weekend trips with my kids. I started out looking to drop weight since I was carrying for myself and the kids. Now that they are older I'm back to mostly carrying for myself and I've managed to get my base weight down to around 10 lbs without sacrificing any comfort.

Re: Skivvorama
Fair enough - I'll give it a try. Any opinion on how Merino performs here versus synthetics? I love how Merino doesn't carry odors but it does take a little more time to dry out.

Re: Skivvies
I typically wear ExOfficio Boxers and while I love how quickly they dry I still find that I chafe fairly easily. I'd love to be able to find a good solution to prevent the chafing but until I d...

Re: WTB ULA Circuit
May be hard to find someone selling a 2009 until Brian comes back in December ;) I have the 2009 version, but I don't have the extra stay installed. I've carried loads up to around 28 l...

Re: WTB ULA Circuit
Aaron, have you tried contacting Mount Rogers Outfitters? I purchased my ULA Circuit from them in the Spring of this year and they shipped it to me the same day. I'm not sure how much stock t...

Re: Cheap Merino Wool
I just got 2 of Backcountry's Merino Wool t-shirts. There's a coupon posted on the gear deal forum, basically 50% any Backcountry branded apparel. This made the cost per shirt around $22 ...

Re: Rainshadow for 2 people?
I use my Rainshadow all the time with just 2 people. It's super roomy and I can pull all of the extra gear into the tent. There's plenty of room for three on the occasion that I have both...

Re: Which sealant to apply to BA pad to prevent slippage?
I have this same issue with my BA pad and my Tarptent, even after painting some stripes on the floor. It drives me crazy camping w/ my kids as I have to wake up at all hours of the night and drag ...

Re: Hubba-Hubba space vs the TT Cloudburst and Rainshadow 2
I completely concur with Sharon's points above. I currently own a TT Rainshadow 2 and my previous tent was a MSR Zoid 2. I experience no more condensation with the Rainshadow than previous do...

Re: Starlites, Circuits and Mariposa Pluses....oh my!
I just went through a similar decision and I decided to go with the ULA Circuit. The main factor for me was the built in back padding + the carbon fiber/delrin hoop frame. Since I use a Big Agnes...

Re: Double Rainbow?
I would think so - with the floors extended the length is 96". Even in the bathtub configuration the floors are 88". The nice thing about the Squall/Rainshadow tarptent designs though i...

Over the past couple of years I've been striving to drop my base weight by gradually replacing my gear with lighter versions, while at the same time trying to find the right balance of comfort and...
