My Locale Boulder, CO
About Me I started backpacking as a teenager in southern appalachia. My summers in college were spent in mountain heaven, glacier national park. Since then, I've lived and played in the high sierras, the cascades, and now the colorado front range. Walking into the mountains for a few days with a light pack never seems to lose its charm. I recently picked up a bad habit called climbing.

additive layering
Usually if its cold enough to wanna wear down at rest, I'll be wearing a breathable windshirt on the move. To keep things simple, I mostly just add and take away one layer at a time (additive l...

some
I've had some leakage, but not much. I've had mine for a year of consistent wear & its been a great jacket. Warm for the weight and the fit is perfect.

ski layering
For those temps I would definitely want more warmth then just an alpha with shell over it. For spring ski trips, it might be enough, but I'd still want to supplement it. I bring a UL winter...

I appreciate the glowing review of the the rx100, Ryan--it too is my favorite backpacking camera ever. I upgraded from the 1 to the 3 this year, and the lense/sensor combo is noticeably sharper and...

I injured my knee on a nasty spill trail running, so I'm hoping to get this vital piece of gear in working order soon, so I can finally get out for some winter trips. I swapped out my summer ba...

I'd agree with aaron that the altaplex looks like the best of both worlds. I've been very happy with my hexamid twin tarp as my only 3 season shelter until recently. I got got a duplex but...

I'm very impressed with this pack. I tried out a few packs for a planned AT thru hike (didn't pan out yet), and this was far and a away my favorite. With the stay and sitpad, the pack conforms...
