My Locale Southern California
About Me I live in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. I can get to a lot of nice hiking areas right from my street or travel for 15 minutes to higher elevations in the Angeles National Forrest. I started packing again with my sons in their Boy Scout troop. I was definitely not light that first trip 6 years ago and have been reducing my pack weight ever since. I mainly pack a few times a year in the Eastern and Western Sierras.

JMT List
It's a nice list. I understand your concern with volume. I used a GG Mariposa Plus when I hike the JMT but now use a Gorilla when I can (unless someone else in the family needs it). I find in o...

Polycro as pack liner
I don't like the idea because your polycro will be on the ground where it can get wet from rain or just condensation. So, if you have to pack it wet then you would not have any type of liner to...

"What do you guys think of the trash compactor bag for a pack liner? How necessary is this? Lets say I have the golite poncho which works as a rain cover for the pack. Would I need a pack line...

Let's Talk Recycled Water Bottles
This has been my go-to bottle for a few years. These are plastic bottles with a wide mouth. I cannot get them in California anymore so when my son was in school in Idaho he would pick them up for a...

40 Pounds for 2 night Solo HELP me lighten it Please
"For a solo 2-night trip, I basically don't take any backups or spares." I agree with this sentiment. In fact, I think a 2 night trip is the exact sort of trip you can really use t...

We used a MSR Miox on a trip with 9 people (Scouts). We got very spotty results and ended up playing with the unit more than we wanted. It seemed like the perfect solution but was not worth the wait. ...
