About Me Originally from Louisiana, I enjoyed camping in my Boy Scouting days and eventually became an Eagle Scout. Many years later (2002), I discovered backpacking after going on an REI multisport trip to Alaska. My first backpack was to Grand Canyon, and I was hooked!

Re: Buff's vs Balaclava for cold temp hiking, which do you prefer?
I have one of the early buff's and do like Chenault. I cut mine in two parts, one 12" long (use as neck gaiter for backpacking) and the other is 6" (use as ear cover for biking).
