Re; "BPL Classics - We want your input" Due to the new and poor website layout (like something from 1996, IMO), I can not find the exact titles (nor the articles), but the ones which encouraged me to subscribe for 2 years running now wer... |

Is a preheat tube necessary for inverted canister use? The Brunton adapter would allow me to invert my canister for winter use, but none of my stoves have pre-heat tubes. Is this a problem? Would liquid fuel spray everywhere in an expanding fireball?! ... |

Re:"Help me leave the office for an "outdoor" job" James, if I may be so bold to read between the lines; I think your malaise comes from a job you do not find fulfilling, not from the inability to work outside sometimes. Working 'outside' t... |

Re:"Wearing Synthetic Insulation while moving" Same basic solution as above. A fleece jacket alone, or that jacket with a wind shell when moving. When stationary I switch to my Montbell Thermawrap. I have 100 weight and 200 weight to choose fr... |

Re:"What is your willingness to pay for lighter gear?" I went down the path of spending too much money to save ounces; then I hit bottom and realized that durability and other constraints were important also. So, if anyone is interested, let's tu... |

Re: "Alcohol vs. Cannister Stove" The simple answer is: when time or durability is more important than weight. I own and recommend caldera cones and alcohol stoves, but when I need liter after liter of boiling water as quickly as... |

Re:"Sleeping base layer" Mark, a principle of going light is multi use gear. So I recommend you sleep in your base layer, or base plus insulation layer. The same layers you are carrying anyway. Don't bring a 'sleep... |

SnowClaw Backcountry Shovel Racer Backcountry Shovel My snow claw is one of the more recent models. I used it on one winter trip for bivy prep; I can move snow at a higher rate than with a shovel due to the low inertia of the blade; I dug into a 45'... |
