Go for it; 400-500 singers are about as good as it gets for home machines imo.

Re: trip suggestions
The Chiricahuas are unreal, especially if you have any interest in ecology/birds/etc. Bummer about the fire, I hadn't heard that. A couple Utah ideas: Dark Canyon-lower section is best, al...

pack liner as inflator for air mattresses
It takes a little practice, but you can easily use your pack liner to inflate an air mattress which eliminates a separate piece of gear like the instaflator. My Kookabay 48" pad takes less th...

"Filter vs Steripen"
I have an Opti and love it. I've never had a single problem and it's seen LOTS of use.

3d mesh weight
It's relatively heavy; the rockywoods stuff is just under 15 oz/sq yd. I've used the thru hiker mesh as well and I'd be surprised if it was much different.

Re: How light is reasonable for a (non-Cuben) MYOG pack ~30 liters?
If you keep straps, buckles, pockets, 3d mesh, etc to a minimum it's probably doable. Those add up way faster than fabric weight. Here's one I made that's similar volume to what you&#...
