My Locale Colorado Rockies
About Me I'm 45 years old, 6'4" and 195 lbs. I've backpacked in the Colorado Rockies, the Wasatch and Uinta mountains, and in Zions National Park. I mountain bike in the Colorado Rockies. I've kayaked in Yellowstone and on Flaming Gorge, and rafted the Green, Colorado and Snake rivers. My trips are usually a week long or less. I love to hike wherever I can. I'm an Assistant Scout Master and I'm often out with the Scouts. My immediate goal is to thru-hike the Colorado trail. I've lived in Utah, Ohio, Illinois, Argentina, California, and Colorado.

Re: Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap
I love the stuff as well. I use the unscented version. I've used it for everything but tooth brushing. I just can't bring myself to do that. Maybe if I swore at my mother and had a tooth brush h...

Re: about those potential nano ponchos
Kevin, I have no experience with Cuben. From what I can gather from others, puncture resistance seems to be the Achilles heal of Cuben. Because of this it seems to me that a tarp is one of the ...

Re: Sewing/Taping
Thanks Steve. Have you felt the need to seal the seams you have sewn through, or do you feel the tape did the job? Getting stronger with age. I like the sound of that. I wish it applied to me.

Re: Cuben Fiber - Q&A
Unfortunately that is exactly what I was considering. A flat-feld seam with the tape used to initially join the 2 overlapping pieces of material, folded and then sewn through. I thought the tape w...

Andrew, I have no experience with Cuben. I can guess that breathability may be an issue if it is used on the bottom. I have a Hennessy hammock and the bottom is breathable. People who have put mat...

Douglas, thanks again! That is very encouraging about the JRB Nest. I have the No Sniveller Long and would expect it to preform the same. I was suspicious that the UnderPad would be too sm...

David, Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. It is a real challenge trying to lessen our negative impacts when we are so dependent on others for manufacturing. My advice still stands. Just subst...
