My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Vest much easier - sewing sleeves on is difficult since the skin temperature of your torso is greater than arms, insulation there is more efficient

Re: Re: SUL "Crampons"
Maybe use #18 guage galvanized wire. Wrap it around foot maybe 4 times. Might work better on ice.

After I combine mineral spirits and silicone, it takes about 15 minutes to completely disolve - no little globs of silicone. Maybe if you shake in jar it only takes 5 minutes? Then apply it to ...

Re: Re: Re: WG
what do you mean "it didn't harden". After 24 hours it should cure, still soft and pliable. what was the ratio of silicone to mineral spirits?

Re: altitude sickness
When they climb Everest, they hike up to higher altitude, then go down a few thousand feet and stay overnight.
