Re: Shelter for JMT in Late August/Early September
I would never say the bugs will be gone for certain, especially in this wet a year, but the odds are in your favor. I did the JMT in late august/early sept in a big snow year (1993) and there were ...

Re: Bear canister on SHR - two questions
I find I can get 12 days worth of food - about 18 lbs - into my Bearikade expedition, if I repackage the freeze-dried stuff and pack it very carefully and firmly. You won't get that much into a...

Re: Tips for washing a 'mid?
I wouldn't use anything but water. Set it up, hose it down, wipe with a sponge or rag if you like. Don't bother with the DWR treatment - I doubt it will do anything to the silnylon.

Re: LED Headlamps and Lithium Batteries
I have used lithiums in both Petzl and Princeton tec headlamps with no problems whatsoever.

Re: Un-insulated sleeping pads and temperatures
I'd put it this way: if you took a warmer pad and a lighter bag you could be just as warm for less weight, or if you took a warmer pad you could be significantly warmer for slightly more weight...
