About Me I started backpacking in the Northeast in high school with 3 buddies where we had quick access to the AT (Hertlein campsite). Continued through college and dropped off during the family-building years. Got back into camping with my sons and Cub Scouts which just fueled the need for more backpacking. Getting out on weekend+ trips for the past few years and loving it all over again.

Re: Is there something you eat in the backcountry that you don't eat otherwise?
I would say that the differences in what I eat on trail or at home (not counting specific trail meals) has to do with caloric intake and burn, thus I am more likely to justify high calorie sweets o...

Re: Does anyone find they sleep LESS in the woods?
I used to have the same problem until I found the equation that worked for me: (Miles + Elevation Change) * (Alcohol + Earplugs + Neoair) = Rest 'Changes in Latitude : Changes in Attitude...

Re: Annotating Maps on Water/Tear Resistant Paper (pen, pencil, markers????)
I have had no issues with a fine tipped Sharpie on the Nat Geo adventure paper. I usually find myself putting mile markers and other points of interest on after I have printed it.
