My Locale Midwest
About Me I am in my late-40's and really got interested in backpacking about 10 years ago as a way to have some concentrated time with my boys, now all finishing up high school or in college. I try to get out a few times a year, including a bi-annual trip to Colorado for some of the big stuff. Otherwise I am stuck in the very boring midwest where everything exciting is a good day's drive away.

+1 on the MSR Flex skillet
+1 on the MSR Flex skillet. I've used it to fry mountain trout and make tortilla pizza's. Completely non-stick and I believe 8 oz with a handle. Wish it had a lid but doesn't.

Early on in my hiking journey I wouldn't say anything to people that I would see in the afternoon walking to a peak above treeline in flip flops carrying only a bottle of water. I assumed they...

Any others with advice?
David, great advice, thanks! I wish we had universities with outdoor leadership schools in Indiana so I wouldn't have to pay out of state tuition. Ouch!

Exped UL 7 L/W
I also went from the NeoAir to the Exped Synmat 7 UL. I am 6', 240 lbs and use the L/W (77x25). For the extra weight, about 3-4 oz I believe, the Exped is an absolute dream pad. Very thick, v...
