My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

Re: Re: Re: canister
On my three canister stoves I've used, when you screw it in, a bit of gas escapes. You can smell the sulfur smell that they put in so you'll know it's leaking. I assume the pin open...

Re: Re: Acclimitization to cold
yeah - my hands get cold and don't work so good. It takes longer to pack up. Fingerless gloves help a little. Holding a hot drink helps. Drinking hot liquids heats core, and then there'...

Re: Some post-hike thoughts on my Sawyer mini filter with questions
I think your filter needed to be backflushed, was almost totally clogged. This is a problem with all Sawyer filters (hollow tube) (especially the mini?) sometimes they get clogged and it's d...

Re: canister
I've had several brands of stoves. When I screw it on or off, there's a short burst of leaked gas, especially when the canister is more full. One time, the Lindal valve wouldn't clo...
