My Locale Northern Minnesota
About Me I have been backpacking for over 30 years, all over California, plus many western states and Minnesota. I hike year-round in all weather, and average 500+ miles (800+ km) per year. I make a point of using lightweight gear, and smaller volume packs. Doubting I can ever be truly UL, I try to be as near to it as I can yet still be comfortable. I start early and hike hard so as to enjoy the afternoons exploring/chilling. I usually take a freestanding tent and enjoy hot meals at night. If not hiking solo I am usually with brother-in-law Dave.

Sawyer squeeze vs. steripen

How much White Gas
I planned on 5 L a day plus meals and figured 5 oz a day that had a built-in factor for bad conditions. That worked for 3 flavors of XGK and my Coleman Xtreme.

Oh, please don’t get the idea that Dave is a freeloader or anything like that. He just loves to experiment with UL ideas but won’t try them at home. (It would do any good anyway as he lives in ...

Encapsil angst
What a wild thread. Just my takes. If this stuff is as good as they say I am stoked, but will never buy one as the price point is nuts. But get it down to maybe a slight premium? OK, even a reas...
