About Me Originally from Louisiana, I enjoyed camping in my Boy Scouting days and eventually became an Eagle Scout. Many years later (2002), I discovered backpacking after going on an REI multisport trip to Alaska. My first backpack was to Grand Canyon, and I was hooked!

Re: what size tarp negates use of bivy? and other interesting questions :)
1. For flat tarp most might say 8 x 10. A few might go for 9 x 7. 2. Any size shaped tarp with full coverage low-ish to ground that gives you enough room to sleep.
