My Locale Arizona
About Me I have resided in the Southwest for most of my life and have always enjoyed hiking and outdoors in some fashion. The past 9 years my level of fanaticism concerning hiking and backpacking has ramped up steeply. I have spent the past decade gradually working my way into the ultralight philosophy and devote a significant amount of my income to new gear purchases. I currently reside in the Phoenix area and rare is the weekend that I do not get out for a hike of some sort. Time permitting, I also work in the electrical engineering field.

Not in the Phoenix area. Last weekend we were an hour north of here up on the Mogollon Rim at around 7500 ft. Today we had our first >100 degree day of the year. Those old Supes are starting to ...

{{Here's an idea -- just carry your poles in one hand. That's what I do on level sections, anyway.}}} That's what I do too.

Thanks for chiming in Ron. It's not surprising to hear that you are out there beating the bushes trying to come up with better solutions to this. Your efforts (and suggestions) are definitely a...

Re: Tie-out options
Linelocs are great, but the ones I got with my MLD tarp require >=2.5mm lines to work properly. When you are dealing with a ~5oz cuben tarp the line weight adds up quickly to become a big part o...

Ipod mini speaker and evening libation for sure. Also FF down socks. Nothing better than toasty feet. Some would call my hammock a luxury item. I'm not sure there is much of a weight penalty an...

Re: Carrying Your Sh*t
Wow, this thread is still alive. I don't agree with the poster above who claims that you need a bucket or commode to use a wag bag. Just open the bag up, hold it up against your butt and go. It...

Re: BPL Firelight 550 + Alcohol Stove (Recommendations?)
Caldera cone for sure. I love my FL550/Caldera cone combo. I eventually upgraded it to the Ti version for a more durable and long lasting solution. I also use the caddy kit to store it in, and also...

Oh yeah, as soon as Via came out my Java Juice went bye bye and this makes it in my pack on every trip. I purchase in volume of 48 to get the price break. A nice strong and flavorful cup of coffee to ...
