My Locale NorCal - South Bay
About Me I love the wilderness and UL gear.
I went on my first backpacking trip in Oregon when I was 6 weeks old (AUG72). It snowed all night long. When day light came I was the only thing left dry. Just wish I could remember it!

In 2000 my first UL trip resulted in a night hike to stay warm. Wrong gear.

Finished the BPL Scouting course (May 2010). Very cool. It was like closing a door. I feel like I can teach the principals now.

RE: "One-handed Scissors?"
One of the instructors at my BPL course carried the little Fiskars scissors. I think they are these below. $5-6 depending on the store. He prefered these over a knife. My kids and I share a kni...

RE: "How do you attach your quilt to your pad?"
Sorry, but +4 to not attaching it... I move and stir. A simple rock back and fortth and tuck it in method works wonderfully! I started doing this with sleeping bags in the army about 20+ years a...

RE: "Alcohol stove stored in pot"
Never an issue here. Been doing it for years also. Any concern and a freezer zip bag should do the trick. Great suggestions and insight above.

RE: "BPL Absaroka Pack"-I have it
All, I have to say I really love the pack. Shock cord, and less slant in the pockets are the only thing I would change as stated above. Otherwise this pack hit my needs on the nose. I have ma...

RE: "Backpack for a 5 year old"
How about the REI Flash 18 (I am not an REI promoter, I picked up mine at the used gear sale for $5). It is small enough and you can use a small pad as a frame. I used it with my daughter. She c...

RE: "Designing a couple of Bivy sacks"
Austin, I would love to see more girth at the top of the bag. I like when I can pull them over my 6'2" frame. I took the zipper off of my current one and use it like a quilt. When th...
