There is about an ounce difference, if I recall correctly. I just had not heard mention of the ti version being discontinued, but I have not seen them for sale in perhaps a little over 2 years now...

I almost always use one, often along with a sternum strap, even with a sub-5 lb. base because of the added stability provided thereby while moving quickly and/or bushwhacking.
