Marmot Precip Alisha - if you are a size small and like the color coral, I have one only slightly used that I'll sell you for $40. I upgraded to an ID eVent and don't need it. Send me a PM if you're... |

Ultra-light living, or Ultra-less Good point, Bill. If owning something fills a useful purpose, then keep it! My own disposition is such that I am much more comfortable with fewer things. As much of a purger as I am, I do have s... |

Ultra-light living, or Ultra-less Long ago a friend of mine pointed out whatever we think we need, someone somewhere is living without it and is still happy. That comment encouraged my already innate style of living without a heav... |

remove compresson sack- and gain space! Thanks for the report! It seems counter-intuitive to put a fluffy sleeping bag into a backpack and still have room for everything else. I've read about doing that here on BPL and plan to try ... |

Icebreaker in the dryer I have dried my merino shirts, Icebreaker and Smartwool, in the dryer many times with no problems. I also sized up on the Icebreaker, intentionally, because I didn't want the shirt skin tight. |

Western Washington BPLers Unite It sounds like the consensus is to do a day trip first and then plan a backpack trip. If you're interested in Skyline Lake near Stevens Pass, we could hike to the lake (it's only an hour... |

Western Washington BPLers United Great idea! Saturdays work best for me for a day trip. I'm all for something in the snow. I know the Stevens Pass area best. If one particular day doesn't work out for everyone, maybe we... |

Baking with rocks Tinny does it successfully, but I've never tried it. I use water and no rocks. Look at his website, minibulldesign.com, and search in the archives on his Adventures page for 17 May. |

Thermawrap v MicroPuff Fit might be another factor to look at. The Thermawrap parka is cut a little tighter in the hips than the MicroPuff parka. I don't know if the fit is the same in their vest lines. |

Windshirt still needed with eVent jacket? I've only used a wind shirt for about a year (Houdini), after learning about them here on BPL. I've often looked at it and wondered if I really needed to bring both it and my eVENT rain ja... |

Botach Tactical Customer Service I had a similar experience to David's. They sent the inferior space blankets, rather than the correct order, took forever to send a return UPS shipping label, and only yesterday admitted to recei... |

Boomer's Guide to Lightweight Backpacking by Carol Corbridge I was very disappointed in this book. Luckily, I didn't buy it but had checked it out from the library. For starters, the book is in major need of copy editing. There are lots of awkward sent... |

Backpacking Light Merino UL Pants These do everything BPL promised - provide comfortable warmth without being bulky. I've worn them under non-winter hiking pants all winter, and they've extended the comfort range down to 7 de... |

Hikelight.com Company I just discovered this website that is based in Oregon. It seems to be a distributor of some of our favorite brands - SixMoonDesigns, Tarptent, Montbell, GraniteGear, and Western Mountaineering. No ... |

HarmonyHouseFoods.com vegetables and beans I just received my second order of dehydrated food from Harmony House. First I bought the vegetable pantry stuffer - 16 different quart-sized containers of various dehydrated vegetables, and then a we... |

Golite Paradox pants I'm not sure whether to review these in raingear or softshell clothing, because they're both. They are all-day pants, rather than rain pants to pull on over hiking pants and are made of a fab... |

Sealskinz gloves I had the same experience as Brett. My non-waterproof gloves absorbed less water than these. |

ULA Circuit This pack was on backorder, but it came sooner than Brian said it would. I gave it a 2-day test this last weekend on a short backpacking trip in the Cascades. I was pleased that it was as comfortabl... |
