Pay particlar attention to David's factor# 2 - Width. Many problems are avoided by having as shoe that is wide enough to allow the foot to spread out and be happy.

The big deal is when you have an insulated mat. Condensing breath, which then freezes during the day, makes for an uncomfortable night. Especially if you can't unroll and inflate the mat.

We use a 1.3L for "Just add hot water" cooking. Works great, with the extra volume eliminating any spillage.

Peter, Skurka's Fancy Feast Catfood Can stove (mentioned above) is a great starter, but be sure to include a tight windscreen that matches your pot, or any other stove/pot you end up with.
