My Locale Scotts Valley CA via San Jose, CA
About Me A return to backpacking after a musicians life. Hiked with too much weight before finding out the "lite" side. I live in Scotts Valley which is right in the middle of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, and only 10 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from Los Gatos. Love the Sierra's!!! Too many places to see and go!

Mark I could not agree with you more. It does sadden me (look at one of my earlier posts on this subject) when a bear has to be put down. I take using a cannister in stride as a nescessary evil. I ...

Yep the fines are quite steep and the lectures that you have to endure from a ranger is quite funny. What's not funny is when a beautiful bear has to be put down for becoming too habitualized with ...

I agree. I have been backpacking in the Sierra's now for 12 years and have only had the pleasure of seeing one bear, last year in Yosemite. I am dumbfounded that the powers that be will not allow a...

Help Improving This
Hi, You might just use a titanium mug, say a Snowpeak 450 with aluminum foil as a lid. This way you have a mug for boiling water and to drink out of. Too many socks and shirts. Pair down to what yo...

Been using ULA packs for years. Bought the P2, P1 and now the Conduit. All are excellent in their own way. Customer service is perfect and so is the gear. Great packs!!!

Came home to find a rather colorful small box on my porch today. Wow it is small. I have always thought that it would be cool to have a small bear cannister for 1-2 nights of backpacking. Well here it...
