My Locale Scotts Valley CA via San Jose, CA
About Me A return to backpacking after a musicians life. Hiked with too much weight before finding out the "lite" side. I live in Scotts Valley which is right in the middle of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, and only 10 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from Los Gatos. Love the Sierra's!!! Too many places to see and go!

oh Alex agreed. I just wanted to let people know that this is available. Let's hope that the powers that be ok this set up. It still would be a lot lighter than the traditional cannisters.

no need for the weight. same as backpacking. all the points you put forth make a lot of sense. maybe that is the next "lightening up" revolution.

I would look at some of the Western Mountaineering bags that are close to but not at 16 oz. The Highlite is 20 oz size large with stuff sack, and rated I think (I forget) at 45 degrees. I am 6'1 21...

I would consider Western Mountaineering. Fine bags indeed. I own two and will not own anything else.

I too have been checked. I think the lightweight community might suffer from this more because we tend to have smaller packs. I was wondering if you were doing, lets say The Rae Lakes Loop, the box...

Bear Boxes in The Sierra's
I have two cannisters and one Ursack. I love hiking in Yosemite and Seki. My question is this, with all of the bear boxes in the Sierra's can I just use the boxes sans cannister? Would a ranger giv...

Been using ULA packs for years. Bought the P2, P1 and now the Conduit. All are excellent in their own way. Customer service is perfect and so is the gear. Great packs!!!

Came home to find a rather colorful small box on my porch today. Wow it is small. I have always thought that it would be cool to have a small bear cannister for 1-2 nights of backpacking. Well here it...
