Year
Perhaps it would be useful for people to mention what year/generation of Montbell jkts they are using. The older ones (ie. snap up) fit a full size smaller than the later generations like I'm u...

Wet Trip
It's looking like it's gonna be an awfully wet trip. They're calling for sun on Monday when we show up, but then rain for the next 4 days. I personally kinda like the rain because it...

Nice
Nice idea. I just finished a 6g bubble-wrap case for my camera.

Hindsight
On hindsight, I would have: - Bought more 'cottage' gear ie. Tim Marshalls 11oz cuben/down quilt instead of my 19oz Golite Ultra 20 quilt. - Gone with a lighter (ie. cuben or Silnyl...

small
You'll probably be good with a small. I'm a hair under 6 feet and 160lbs and the medium fits me good. A lot of the colors look subtle to me....slate blue, olive green, bark...

All at once
From my testing, my alcohol stove uses about 50% more fuel to boil a liter (4 cups) instead of a pint (2 cups). My stove takes about 20g of fuel to boil the pint and 30g to boil the liter. Unless I...

Re: Montbell down Inner vs Marmot Zeus
"Note that the MB UL down has no zippers or drawstrings" This is no longer the case. Montbell updated the U.L. Down Inner about 2 months ago so there is now an adjustable cinch cord in...

Shiny
It's not as shiny as it appears in my photos. It's a little bit more shiny than the Montbell photo. Overall, it's closer to the MontBell photo than it is to my photos.

NeoAir
I've used the MEC Kelvin Summer Pad which is a user inflatable design like the NeoAir. It's 3.5" thick. I find the NeoAir loses a similar portion of air.

Mountain Laurel Designs Cuben DuoMid
The DuoMid is the best shelter for solo hikers. Don't be misled by the "Duo" in its name - you could cram two hikers in here but it's poorly suited for that (ie. no vestibule space, ...

Spark-Lite Fire Starter (Survival Gear - BPL Gear Shop)
I have this kit and the FireLite Mini kit. This sparker is a bit lighter than the FireLite Mini but I don't trust this sparker 100% like I do the FireLite. This sparker doesn't work well wh...

BPL FireLite Firestarter
I love this FireLite Mini. It's the only thing that I 100% trust to start a fire. With a mini Bic you can run out of gas, be at too high of an altitude, get it wet or get it oily. Matches can ...
