Micropur MP1 treatment tabs
The Micropur MP1 treatment tabs do seem like a nice way to go. Seems like pretty much the same deal as AquaTabs (ie. price, weight, hassle) but they have the added bonus of killing crypto.

Re: steripen
"If you are using chemicals, chlorine dioxide is superior to aquatabs. Aquatabs chlorinate the water, Aquamira or other chloride dioxide products oxidize the water (they do not chlorinate) thi...

Re: Steripen...
"Dan - Protozoa are not uncommon in North America." AquaTabs kill most Protozoa including Giardia, which I believe is the most significant concern. They just don't kill 100% of cry...

Re: aqua
My understanding is that crypto isn't a significant risk in North America. Aquamira creates Chlorine Dioxide, whereas AquaTabs are Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) which becomes free chlo...

Coke Syrup
I ended up bringing some Coke syrup home to make some 'Coke'. It took more syrup than I thought to make enough for a Rum & Coke. Probably about 2/3 of an fluid ounce for 1 cup of coke. ...

Mountain Laurel Designs Cuben DuoMid
The DuoMid is the best shelter for solo hikers. Don't be misled by the "Duo" in its name - you could cram two hikers in here but it's poorly suited for that (ie. no vestibule space, ...

Spark-Lite Fire Starter (Survival Gear - BPL Gear Shop)
I have this kit and the FireLite Mini kit. This sparker is a bit lighter than the FireLite Mini but I don't trust this sparker 100% like I do the FireLite. This sparker doesn't work well wh...

BPL FireLite Firestarter
I love this FireLite Mini. It's the only thing that I 100% trust to start a fire. With a mini Bic you can run out of gas, be at too high of an altitude, get it wet or get it oily. Matches can ...
