My Locale Scotts Valley CA via San Jose, CA
About Me A return to backpacking after a musicians life. Hiked with too much weight before finding out the "lite" side. I live in Scotts Valley which is right in the middle of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, and only 10 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from Los Gatos. Love the Sierra's!!! Too many places to see and go!

Solo or No Go
As I get older (I am 42), I am finding less and less friends able to go into the backcountry with me. The alternative for me is to think about solo travel in the backcountry. Some background on me:...

Mokuluemne and Carson/Iceberg would get my vote. Great scenery and the crowds are not as bad as Emmigrant Wilderness. You could also do Hoover Wilderness too. Beautiful area and you're on the Sierr...

I agree with Robert on this one. If you end up solo, don't fret. This trail is a super highway. From Happy Isles on you will see tons of people. Some areas get a tad isolated but what Robert says a...

Never been there. I have done some hiking in that area (I am from San Jose), where is this bar at? Would not mind a post hike cocktail after hiking in the Ventana Wilderness.

Been using ULA packs for years. Bought the P2, P1 and now the Conduit. All are excellent in their own way. Customer service is perfect and so is the gear. Great packs!!!

Came home to find a rather colorful small box on my porch today. Wow it is small. I have always thought that it would be cool to have a small bear cannister for 1-2 nights of backpacking. Well here it...
