Consider the ULA Ohm and Gossamer Gear Gorilla. Both packs have light frames and are under 1.5 lbs.

Klearwater vs. Aquamira
Why does anyone use Aquamira over Klearwater? As far as I can tell, the only difference is that Klearwater can be dripped into the water right away, whereas Aquamira requires you to mix two differe...

Speculation
My speculation is that you will have a small advantage in a tent because it's large and unfamiliar to a bear, so they may leave this 'large unknown object' alone. In a tarp/bivy the bea...

Jam vs. Conduit
Trevor pretty much has it nailed for you. The Jam and Conduit are both similarly sized, DyneemaX packs. The 2009 Jam is 26oz vs. 17oz for the 2009 Conduit. For the extra 9oz, the Jam gives you: ...

Micropur MP1 treatment tabs
The Micropur MP1 treatment tabs do seem like a nice way to go. Seems like pretty much the same deal as AquaTabs (ie. price, weight, hassle) but they have the added bonus of killing crypto.

Mountain Laurel Designs Cuben DuoMid
The DuoMid is the best shelter for solo hikers. Don't be misled by the "Duo" in its name - you could cram two hikers in here but it's poorly suited for that (ie. no vestibule space, ...

Spark-Lite Fire Starter (Survival Gear - BPL Gear Shop)

BPL FireLite Firestarter
I love this FireLite Mini. It's the only thing that I 100% trust to start a fire. With a mini Bic you can run out of gas, be at too high of an altitude, get it wet or get it oily. Matches can ...
