About Me Originally from Louisiana, I enjoyed camping in my Boy Scouting days and eventually became an Eagle Scout. Many years later (2002), I discovered backpacking after going on an REI multisport trip to Alaska. My first backpack was to Grand Canyon, and I was hooked!

I'd say the lightest are kids sleds. I used the Paris Glad-A-Boggan at 2.5 pounds. Of course the weight goes up with the straps and poles needed to complete the setup. http://www.rei.com/pro...

I gather you expected trees at the established primitive site to tie off your tarp with the triptease and then stake it to the ground? I would have looked for another site for camp nearby first...

I made one, but the dragging noise on snow (loud on packed snow) was very annoying. If I try it again, I'd get a Jet Sled Jr. and see how that performs.
