On the PCT this year I left planning to use the tarp and bivy I used on the AT. I switched to a Lightheart Solo at kickoff mainly to increase room, privacy, and ease/quickness/consistency of setup....

+1 for full length air mats on the AT. Any of the insulated light ones will do just fine. I used a short ridge rest for most of the PCT and would do it again though.

Why? Blizzard bag is 13 ounces, a 2.5 XP quilt is about 12 ounces. Together they would weigh the same as your REI bag and be far less comfy.
