Re: longsleeve t-shirt that offers sun protection in hot weather
I really like my Patagonia Sun Hoody. At temperatures > 90 F, every shirt will feel hot if you're moving with a pack on. I'd consider using an umbrella in your conditions.

Re: 1.5 person, 3 season tent recommendation - TT rainbow
The TT Rainbow is a nice tent. It fits me and my 60lb dog fine. It has LOTS of headroom and is very easy to sit up in and move around. I just started using a SMD Lunar Solo. It has good floorsp...

Re: Rain mitts
I ended up buying both a pair of the MEC Cloudraker mitts and the mitts from Luke's Ultralite. So far, a shower test shows the MEC mitts to be completely waterproof (hands stayed dry). But my h...

Re: emissivity
I'm with the emissivity people. I've found that limiting my tent's exposure to the night sky (so limiting the effect of radiative heat loss/emissivity) can significantly reduce condensa...

Re: Lightning Strikes on the CT
Here's a good resource on lightning safety (note: link opens a PDF): http://www.pcta.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/BackcountryLightningSafety.pdf The only thing I disagree with in that PDF ...

Re: Light Pack for Family Trips? (60L+ and 35 lbs+ capacity)
The 4400 Porter is worth a shot. If you like it, seems like it could be a "do-it-all" pack for you. There's also the Exped Lightning 60: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/bac...

Re: Exped Lightning 60
Dave, the shoulder strap as I see it is split into 3 parts: the first part pads the back and connects to the stay, the 2nd part wraps around your shoulder, and the 3rd part goes over part of my che...

Re: Exped Lightning 60
Forgot to mention the pack (with tags) weighs about 39.8 oz, so pretty close to its spec'd weight of 38.8 oz. I'm going to give my HMG 4400 SW another chance to see how its torso length ...

Re: Re t-frame
I measured the total height of the stay to be around 25 inches. I don't find it to be "towering" over my head, but I get what you mean. It doesn't feel much different than my Circ...

t-frame
Konrad, that's awesome! I think DTS would be a better name than "T-Rex". The "T" is actually really simple. The top of the main stay just slides into a pocket at the top (se...
